Therapy Approach
Miranda offers telehealth psychotherapy to both adult individuals and couples. Miranda's way of doing things is all about how our struggles come from the ways we've learned to deal with past and present stress, which can be considered trauma. These ways of coping might have been helpful before, but they may be doing more harm than good now. Miranda's approach is all about using mindfulness cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques to change negative thoughts with compassion and self acceptance. She also uses psychodynamic therapy to explore and connect past events to your current thoughts and behaviors, all through a trauma lens.
Re-wiring negative thought processes with compassion & acceptance can be a powerful tool for personal growth and development. By approaching negative thoughts with kindness and understanding, we can begin to change our mindset and create a more positive outlook on life. This can help us to feel more purposeful in our self, and positively impact our relationships, careers, and the world as a whole.

Trauma-Informed Therapy
Your trauma and past does not define you. Overcome anxiety, build stronger self-worth & confidence, uphold personal boundaries, and form deeper relationships with others.
What really is Trauma-Informed therapy? Trauma refers to any event or experience that has significantly impacted your well-being. No experience is too minor, as everyone perceives the world uniquely and legitimately. Trauma can stem from a single occurrence or multiple events. Trauma-informed therapy operates on the belief that our brains developed coping mechanisms during past stressful events to ensure survival. Whatever you did in that moment not only helped you to survive but also trained your brain on how to respond. This created a neural pathway for your brain to follow when encountering similar stressors. While this sounds beneficial, issues can arise because your brain only recognizes the bodily sensations, emotions, and thoughts rather than the actual stressor. As a result, you may respond to current situations with outdated survival mechanisms that are no longer beneficial or appropriate. These outdated coping mechanisms, once essential for survival, often cause more harm than good. They can manifest as conflict avoidance, excessive anxiety, self-harm, OCD behaviors, reluctance to try new things, difficulties in forming or maintaining relationships, shutting down, or inability to uphold boundaries. Trauma-informed therapy aims to retrain your brain to adopt healthier patterns of reaction and coping when facing stressors. This approach helps restore your sense of self and promotes overall well-being.
The Technique
Mindfulness - This is a practice focused on becoming aware of and accepting your thoughts and feelings. Though it may seem counterintuitive, radically accepting our emotions as they are can help us to let go, overcome, and move forward. This practice can aid in developing emotional regulation, reducing stress, and enhancing self-worth and self-image.
Miranda only uses evidenced based practices. She has built a strong reputation for delivering therapy services tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual & couple. She is always researching new and updated evidenced based approaches and is always open to suggestions and feedback during and outside of therapy sessions.
Miranda's therapeutic approach is all about empowering you with the tools to achieve self-sustainability when faced with future stressors! She subscribes to a solution-oriented methodology that places emphasis on skill acquisition, with the ultimate goal of facilitating your progress and reducing the need for ongoing therapy.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) - An approach that can assist individuals in altering their negative thought patterns. By emphasizing the link between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, CBT can aid individuals in developing new ways of thinking and responding to stressors. CBT consists of interactive exercises and a focus on rewiring the brain, and is a valuable tool for enhancing mental health and overall well-being.
Psychodynamic Therapy - A form of talk therapy that helps individuals explore their past experiences to better understand their current behaviors and emotions. By gaining insight into the root causes of their thoughts and feelings, individuals can develop a greater sense of self-awareness and acceptance. This can lead to healthier ways of thinking and improved overall well-being.
About Me
Hi! I'm Miranda,
I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Texas and Hawaii. I earned my Master of Social Work from Boston University and my Master of Divinity from Duke University. With an extensive background in trauma and crisis work, I have spent six years working in the ER, psychiatric ER, and Inpatient Psychiatric Unit. Before that, my work primarily focused on grief, death, dying, & meaning-making in ICU and Oncology settings.
I also hold a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Texas State University and continue to sing paraprofessionally in my free time. I spend the rest of my time with my beloved pet, Henry, and my sweet nephew, enjoying activities like hiking, swimming, rock climbing, and Pilates. My diverse background and education are reflected in my practice, where I take a truly holistic and ecosystem approach to wellness.

Once you schedule, you will receive an email invitation to complete all necessary consent and pre-appointment forms. These forms will include your insurance information if you plan to use insurance as your payment source. It is important to complete these forms before your first session. All payments will be made online through Headway.
Please note that I am unable to answer messages during therapy sessions. However, I will respond to your message as soon as possible.

Your First Session
Prior to your initial session, you will receive a link to join the telehealth appointment through doxy.me. Simply click on the provided link to join. You do not have to download anything to join. During our first session, we will have the opportunity to get to know each other and discuss your concerns, as well as establish general goals for therapy. These goals can be adjusted as needed throughout our sessions. It's completely fine if there are days when you want to discuss something unrelated to the original topic, as this is just a general outline. I will also take the time to explain various therapy models in more detail and determine how frequently you would like to see me. Typically, I recommend starting with weekly or bi-weekly sessions, but this can be adjusted based on your specific needs and preferences.
03
While you are an established client
My therapy sessions are highly interactive and often include activities for you to practice both during and outside of our meetings. These activities are designed to help you develop new skills and cognitive thought processes. As a result, you will likely need to use some form of writing material during our sessions. The therapy provided here is also rich in information and education, helping you learn not only about yourself but also about how our neural processes interact with our emotions, body, and behaviors. This somewhat solution-oriented approach prepares you with the skills necessary to handle future stressors independently after therapy ends. As you grow and heal, our sessions will naturally become less frequent, although this can always be adjusted based on your needs. My goal is for you to become self-sufficient, but only when you are ready.
